Album Art Vol#1

My first passion was music, followed closely by an appreciation and love for art, and eventually, a deep interest and enthusiasm in graphic design. The convergence of music and art encapsulates the essence of an album cover. Although I am refraining from listing my definitive top ten, as the possibilities are to many to mention, here are ten album covers that have resonated with me because of the beautiful convergence of music, art and memories.

Supertramp - Crime of the Century

Crime of the Century by Supertramp was released in 1974 and its album cover artwork captures the essence of the band's introspective lyrics and diverse sound.

This is the first album I bought at the age of 10, I still love it.

The Beatles - Abby Road

The Abbey Road album cover, shot in 1969, is an enduring image of musical history.

Carry That Weight, best 1:36 ever.

The Eagles - Hotel California

Hotel California by the Eagles boasts an iconic album cover featuring the Beverly Hills Hotel, and boat load of memories.

You can checkout anytime, but you can never lease…

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

The cover of Joy Division’s 1979 debut record is a depiction of radio waves.

The cover art is still worn proudly on T-shirts by teens who’ve never heard of the band.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

Greatest album cover art, and the greatest album of all time - says me.

Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory

One of hip-hop’s greatest album covers of all time. This is no illustration, it’s a photograph of a woman covered in thick, bold brushstrokes of neon paint.

Beautiful artwork, ground breaking music, Check the Rhime.

Midnight Oil - Diesel and Dust

Great photo, artwork and Typography. When I saw it, I bought it, glad I did.

Checkout Beds are Burning and Bullroarer.

Duran Duran - Rio

Great typography and original artwork by Paul Berrow.

In 1982 MTV was moving into it’s second year, Duran Duran produced high level videos that rocketed them into stardom.

Roxy Music - Avalon

Rarely does an album cover so perfectly capture the essence of the music inside.

Listen to side one, flip it over and listen to side two, or just hit play on Spotify.

Beatsie Boys - Paul’s Boutique

Ludlow Street in NYC on the album cover of did everything possible to put you right into the Beastie Boys’ world.
It also made it essential to own the original, fold-out, I love mine.
